United Seniors Health Cooperative (202) 479-6973): United Seniors Health Cooperative is a nonprofit organization which helps people understand issues of aging such as good health, health insurance (Medicare, Medicaid, Medigap and major medical), housing options and care giving. It has developed a specialty of counseling people regarding insurance needs, including long-term care insurance.

Administration on Aging: The Administration on Aging (AoA) is the focal point and advocacy agency for older persons and their concerns at the federal level. It develops federal government policy and programs and coordinates community services for older people. AoA assists state and area agencies on aging in developing community services to meet the social and human service needs of older persons.

Eldercare Locator: a public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging. The Eldercare Locator is the first step to finding resources for older adults in any U.S. community. Just one phone call or web site visit provides an instant connection to resources that enable older persons to live independently in their communities. The service links those who need assistance with state and local area agencies on aging and community-based organizations that serve older adults and their caregivers.

National Institute on Aging: The National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the National Institutes of Health, is the federal government's principal agency for conducting and supporting biomedical, social and behavioral research related to aging processes and the diseases and special problems of older people. The Public Information Office prepares and distributes information about issues of interest to older people.

Medicare: The official U.S. government site for people with Medicare.

Nursing Home Info: a nationwide service that helps senior citizens chose the right nursing home by searching a database with more than 17,000 nursing homes.

The Nursing Home Quality Initiative: This Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI) web site provides consumer and provider information regarding the quality of care in nursing homes. NHQI discusses quality measures that are shown at the Nursing Home Compare web site (medicare.gov), which allows consumers, providers, states and researchers to compare information about nursing homes. Many nursing homes have already made significant improvements in the care being provided to residents by taking advantage of these materials and the support of Quality Improvement Organization staff.

LongTermCareLiving.com: provides consumers with needed information about nursing homes, assisted living/residential care and other types of long-term care. Acts as a guide to planning, preparing and paying for long-term care.

American Health Care Association: a non-profit federation of affiliated state health organizations that represent more than 10,000 non-profit and for-profit assisted living, nursing facility, developmentally-disabled, and subacute care providers that care for more than 1.5 million elderly and disabled individuals nationally.

The National Center for Assisted Living: a national assisted living resource for advocacy, information, education and professional development.

The American Diabetes Association: The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes and fighting for those affected by diabetes.

The American Heart Association: The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is, "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."

The American Stroke Association: The American Stroke Association is a division of the American Heart Association that focuses on reducing risk, disability and death from stroke through research, education, fund raising and advocacy.

The Alzheimer's Association: The Alzheimer's Association is a volunteer organization that sponsors public education programs and offers supportive services to patients and families who are coping with Alzheimer's disease (AD).

The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization: The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) is the largest nonprofit membership organization representing hospice and palliative care programs and professionals in the United States. The organization is committed to improving end of life care and expanding access to hospice care with the goal of profoundly enhancing quality of life for people dying in America and their loved ones.

The Assisted Living Federation of America: The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) is the largest national association exclusively dedicated to professionally operated assisted living communities for seniors.

American Association of Retired Persons: American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Founded in 1958, AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization that helps people 50 and over improve the quality of their lives.
